WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

The world environment day was celebrated in the vidyalaya with great enthusiasm. The programme in the morning assembly included an awareness talk by students of class IX. A skit on importance of keeping the surrounding clean was presented by students of class X A. An environmental theme song was sung by students of class X B. This was followed by a massive tree plantation programme organised by the nature club involving students of class VIII. The students and staff of the school escorted by the Principal Shri A P Vinod Kumar  and vice Principal Shri Kumara Mohan planted saplings of shade trees on either sides of the road leading to the vidyalaya. Around 55 saplings were planted. The students and local people were given an awareness talk on the importance of trees in purifying the environment and not to throw or burn plastics . An awareness talk was given by the Nursing staff Mrs Krithika on environmental pollution and carcinogens.

NATURE CLUB @ KENDRIA VIDYALAYA OTTAPALAM
All life forms depend on the fragile balance between itself and its surroundings. This environment keeps on changing every second. This is a reflection of evolution or ecological succesion.Every organism gets conveniently adapted to its surrounding- this being the secret of survival.Today man has intentionally changed the surroundings to suit his needs and greed’s, which has lead us to ponder on the sustenance and survival of other species around him. There is an urgent need to reverse the highhandedness of man in causing ecological disturbance. We all have to urgently empower our children to improve the environment.
With this thought the nature club of kendriya vidyalaya has taken its shape. Environmental education itself becomes a powerful way of learning and fosters a sense of responsibility for their immediate environment. Children are encouraged to take up action projects at their school campus, homes and neighborhoods.

The children take active part in the school club activities. They are encouraged to study the plant life existing the campus, some have adopted one tree under the programme ‘Identify my tree’ where the child finds the botanical name of a tree and studies its growth pattern, flowering season and nature of fruit dispersal. This information is linked with the “season watch “ an organization in Bangalore which studies the effect of climate change on flowering pattern of plants. The school has registered with “season watch”. They are encouraged to maintain potted plants. A plan to initiate a medicinal plants garden is proposed. All major environmental occasions are celebrated in the vidyalaya like Nature conservation day, ozone day , world wet land day, and world population day. The programmes organized include poster making, speech, collage competition, skit, presentations, green parliament etc. A notice board is maintained by the members of the club with articles, write-ups, posters and slogans of environmental themes
